HUNTING SEASON
AT THE BLACKWELL
Southern Tioga County and Northern Lycoming
County boast limitless square miles of public
hunting grounds. Hunting season begins with
archery in October and ends with bear season
in December. The Blackwell is centrally located
in areas with significant populations of
small game, turkey, deer and bear. Although
they cannot be hunted, there has been several
sightings of the Pennsylvania Elk migrating
into the Southern Tioga County tier. Tioga
and Lycoming County consistently produce
some of the highest deer and bear harvests
in the state. Whether you are a traditional
hunter or prefer the challenge of bow or
muzzle loader hunting, the hunting facilities
and lands surrounding The Blackwell are second
to none. In addition to traditional hunting,
an annual coyote hunt began in 1998 and is
held over a three day weekend every March.
If you are interested in participating in
the coyote hunt, please contact The Blackwell
manager for dates, registration and prize
information.
The Blackwell suggests your participation
in the annual rattlesnake hunt. This event
is held every June in Morris, Pennsylvania
(5 miles north of Blackwell on Route 414).
Pre-registration is required and rules of
the event and of the Pennsylvania Department
of Environmental Protection are strictly
enforced. This is a "no kill" event and
all rattlesnakes must be returned to the
locations in which they were caught.
