In January and February, when the Pine Creek
Valley is blanketed in snow, north central
Pennsylvania and the State Forest lands become
host to the snowmobiler. Groups of two and
groups of fifty are repeatedly and heartfeltly
welcomed at The Blackwell. Food, drink, fuel
and warmth are offered to these winter nomads.The Pine Creek Trail offers cross-country skiers a 20-mile trek through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon and the Pine Creek Gorge.
Located ten minutes from the Blackwell Hotel, Ski Sawmill, a downhill ski facility, is generally open through March and offers moderate downhill ski slopes. For those downhill skiers desiring a more severe challenge, Denton Hill ski area is approximately one hour from the Blackwell Hotel (1/2 hour west on Route 6 out of Wellsboro).
