North central Pennsylvania offers a variety
of activities which are unique to the season
that you visit The Blackwell.
SPRINGTIME -- Of all of the seasons, springtime at The
Blackwell affords our guests the most options.
Beginning in mid to late March, white water
rafting, kayaking and canoeing can be found
on the Pine Creek.
Around mid to late May, cyclists begin riding
the Pine Creek Rails to Trails 3% grade bike
path through the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
More adventuresome mountain bikers dare the
mountain roads available from spring through
the fall.
Notwithstanding the usual hunting seasons
of north central Pennsylvania, Tioga County
hosts some unique hunting events. The month
of March hosts the annual Coyote hunting
event; the month of May kicks off the spring
gobbler season; and, the end of spring is
visited by the Morris Rattlesnake Hunt.
SUMMERTIME -- Mid-June brings the annual mountain laurel
festival to Wellsboro, Pennsylvania (located
about 17 miles North of The Blackwell). Small
town parades and festival activities make
this event an enjoyable family affair. Mountain
roads and hiking trails make the spectacular
beauty of the mountain laurel in bloom accessible
via foot, bicycle and automobile.
Throughout the summer months, several music
festivals are held in Wellsboro, Stoney Fork
and Ski Sawmill. The music ranges from Bluegrass
to Country to Blues to Rock 'n Roll.
FALL -- Labor Day marks the end of summer, but
the beginning of the favorite season of many
in the Canyon -- Fall Foliage! Leaf watchers
drive for miles just to witness the panoramic
view of the crisp autumnal colors. This is
one of the busiest times in the Canyon. To
celebrate this event, The Blackwell hosts
a German Dining Experience known as Oktoberfest.
Reservations are strongly recommended.
WINTER -- In January and February, when the Pine
Creek Valley is blanketed in snow, north
central Pennsylvania and the State Forest
lands become host to the snowmobiler, cross-country
skier and the downhill skier.
